The event started at about 10 am with the singing of the National Anthem after which President Paul Biya’s speech was rebroadcast by CRTV.

The march pass began with the Red Cross, after which was an ambulance and Scout Movement. This was followed by nursery schools, secondary and higher education institutions. Handicapped youths and professional institutions were all a part of the event. There were also youth movements, sports federations and youth wings of legalized political parties.

The 49th edition of the national Youth Day had as theme, “Youth and the preservation of peace for an emergent Cameroon.” As the future of Cameroon, these youths have to ensure peace to carry Cameroon to that emergent level. They have to preserve peace socially, economically and politically for a better Cameroon.
