Bamenda City Bamenda City

The over 3000 striking traders in the city of Bamenda have returned to their market stalls after negociations with the Governor and his close collaborators.

The crisis meeting with the North West Governor Adolp Lele L'Afrique, his Etat Major and competent authorities in Bamenda versus representatives of traders union resorted at the advise of the SDO for Mezam and the Secretary General to the City Council, Waindim Jude, to maintain the old rates (amounts)paid by the traders for sheds at the Bamenda main market.

The Secretary General to the City Council acting on the instructions of the Government Delegate Vincent Ndumu, called on the angry traders to go back to their business points after informing them on the maintainance of old rents.

Traders at the Hospital Roundabout neighbourhood were invited to the Bamenda City Council on Wednesday 13th July for deliberations.

The SG insisted that pending a proper re-examination of deliberation to implement Law No. 2009/019 of 15 Dec 2009 bearing on Local Fiscal System, the old rates will remain in force.

It is worth noting that, these disgruntled traders cried foul to increased rents on their markets stalls, the unsanitary and insecured nature of the markets, the bad state of roads in town which to them inhibites their business transactions amongst others.

The aforementioned points and others motivated them to recently stage a peaceful demonstration along the streets of the Capital city of the North West Region,Bamenda.
