A dog is reported to have attacked and killed a man and injured four others in the Bangvel village, the Betare- Oya district in the east regions.
The victim died shortly after having contracted rabies from the bite.
The dog was shot to death immediately after the locality received orders from the Divisional Officer for Bangvel - Simon Etsil.
He also paid an impromptu visit to the crisis site where he sympathised with the bereaved family and the four victims.
While the deceased was being buried, the Divisional Officer immediately despatched the four others who were rather seeking local treatment from traditional experts, to the Betare-Oya district hospital for a strict medical attention.
The Divisional Officer also used the opportunity to urge local authorities to raise awareness on the need for the local population to vaccinate their pets and to get rid of any stray dogs.
Before his departure, ten stray dogs had been killed by the villagers.
