The project is a fruit of Sino-Cameroon cooperation.
Cameroon and one of its major cooperation partners, China have embarked on the professionalisation of education. Feasibility studies on the first-ever Government Technical High School for Agriculture to be constructed in the country with Chinese assistance are underway in Yabassi in Nkam Division, Littoral Region.
The Minister of Secondary Education, Louis Bapes Bapes, last Friday, June 1, visited the 80-hectare site in Yabassi where feasibility studies are said to have started two weeks ago. During the assessment visit, the Minister together with the Senior Divisional Officer for Nkam, Felix Bilonougou, among others, held discussions with Cameroon and Chinese experts led by Han Jun.
Possible challenges like steady water and electricity and inaccessibility of the site were tackled as a measure of precaution and prevention. As concerns access to the site, it was reported that the Nsake Bridge is be rehabilitated to ease the movement of machinery to the site. The Minister insisted on the prompt handling of the task to keep the project going smoothly.
The school's students are expected to translate results of research carried out by the State into concrete reality and make such produce available to the community and its environs at affordable cost. Teaching will constitute 50 per cent of assessment while the practicum phase will take the remaining 50 per cent. The Minister said the project is of capital importance to Cameroon as it falls in line with the professionalisation of education instructed by the Head of State.
