HIAMS graduates best HND nursing

Over 60 students have graduated from the Higher Institute of Applied Medical Sciences, HIAMS, while 107 have been matriculated.

The students all dressed in their clinical attire, expressed happiness while remarking that their struggles had not gone in vain.

The twin event took place at the main campus of HIAMS in Lysoka, Buea. This year’s graduates make up the fifth batch of students that the institution has graduated since its creation in 2006.

According to the Executive President and Founder of HIAMS, Michael Boyo: “We had the best national HND student in nursing two years ago and this year we have graduated one of the best students, still in nursing.”

He remarked that: “At first, many people thought it was a fluke, but that is not the case because we have a system in place to produce the best nursing graduates and medical laboratory sciences and business graduates,” Boyo stated The Executive President disclosed that HIAMS, in preparing entrepreneurs, has been creating opportunities for them.

“We are launching a couple a projects for our students, so that when they graduate, they could have meaningful employment and doing projects of their own,” Boyo told The Post.

It should be noted that HIAMS is in partnership with the University of Buea which offers degrees in nursing and medical lab sciences. They have also partnered with University of East Anglia, UK; University of Texas Medical branch, USA; and Brookline College, USA. HIAMS remains the only institution that trains ultra-sound technicians and echography.

On the movement of the institution from Molyko to a new site, Boyo said he believes everything is in place.

“There is no problem with that because most of the students have relocated around Muea and there is a lot of accommodation in this area and they can walk from Molyko,” Boyo declared.

The main message during the grad and matriculation ceremony was ‘Dawn of Vision 2020’. HIAMS, therefore, has as vision to be the most outstanding private higher education institution in Cameroon by 2020.

“Vision 2035 [the Head of State’s version] is too far, proper vision statements are supposed to be organised in 10 years; we are moving in decades so we talk about 2020 and later it will be 2030,”Boyo asserted.
