Kumbo Council awards meritorious schools

According to the Divisional Delegate of Basic Education for Bui, ever since local councils took over the management of the minimum package for primary schools, no bad report has emerged from Kumbo.

Prizes worth three hundred and thirty thousand francs plus some didactic materials have been awarded to public and private schools in Kumbo by the Kumbo Council.

According to Mayor Njong Donatus the prizes are aimed to encourage schools that scored 100% in both the Common Entrance and First School Leaving Certificate Examinations for 2013/2014 academic year.

The exercise was done during the distribution of the 2014/2015 minimum package comprising stationeries, didactic materials, pedagogic materials, First Aid items, and sports items to thirty Government Primary Schools within the Kumbo Municipality.

This falls in line with the ongoing decentralization process in the country, whereby some powers and prerogatives of the central government have been devolved to councils.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Njong Donatus appreciated the head teachers for the excellent performance of their schools in the end of course examinations. He hailed the head teachers for the judicious and transparent management of the “minimum packages” of the previous academic year, saying the inspection team that was sent to the field brought back a very positive feedback.

On his part, the Bui Divisional Delegate of Basic Education Mr. Angwafor Clement Mankefo frowned at teachers who have transformed themselves into petition writers. He called for dialogue in the event of misunderstandings instead of resorting to witch-hunting.

He expressed gratitude to the Kumbo Council for providing adequate materials to schools, saying that since Councils took over the distribution of the minimum package, no bad report has emerged from Kumbo. He praised the schools for making good use of the materials and urged the schools’ authorities to continue with the good spirit.

For his part, the Senior Divisional Officer for Bui Nzeki Theophile congratulated and encouraged the Kumbo Council for all they are doing for the education sector. He enjoined the schools that did not do well to work harder in order to improve on their performance.

It is worth noting that head teachers were drilled on first aid administration by a medic from the Kumbo District Hospital. They were drilled on the importance of common drugs like paracetamol and iodine solution in first aid. Prevention of Ebola and Cholera were also highlighted.
