Tourists and visitors who will be moving to Limbe III and to the slave trade village in particular, will as from now be greeted by the monument of a freed slave.
The monument was unveiled recently by the Divisional Officer of Limbe III Clement Sone Ngoe before the ordinary session to adopt the 2015 budget.
Speaking at the “Chop Farm” roundabout, the Mayor to the Limbe III Council, Barrister Nseke Luma Dibotti, said the monument is proof that freedom has a place in humanity.
According to the legal expert, cum politician, the monument will serve as a remembrance that slaves were taken to the western world trough the Bimbia ports.
The Divisional Officer of Limbe III on his part commended the Mayor and his team for the initiative and called on the living forces of the municipality to take care of the monument as a symbol of freedom, unity and peace.
Also speaking during the event, the Public Relations Officer of the Limbe III Council, Ngomba Samuel noted that the monument is a jewel that will boost the tourist potential of the area and will attract many more tourists to the area.
The Monument in question is a beautifully carved middle aged man with broken chains and a smile of relief on his face.
Though the cost of the monument was not made available by press time, experts and architects say it must have cost the council some good money.
