It was with a sigh of relief that the people of South West Region received the ever first corn seed processing unit.
The donation was made to over10, 000 farmers in the Region that are involved in maize production.
The ceremony which took place in Muyuka was not only occasion to launch the Farming season but provided an opportunity to explain Government’s policy in the production of maize production.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Essimi Menye indicated that the offer has been made to boost production and enhance high yields.
To him, this will be a major stimulator to other economic sectors including the brewery industries, bakeries and household consumption.
On the occasion, the representatives of farmer’s Association took the pledge to continue to work within Common Initiative Groups and push up the volume of production to 120,000tonnes in 2015.
The multi-task processing unit has the particularity of sorting grading, chemically treating and packaging seeds such as: maize, rice, soya bean and sorghum.
During the occasion, Mr. Essimi Menye also distributed seeds and farming equipment to farmers.
