Man dies offloading container for a Chinese Company

Martin Moudio Tchapi died on Friday while he was offloading a container at Bonapriso. He is said to have been buried under a range of 400 glass weighing a tonne.

The accident occurred around 4: 00 pm when Martin was informed by friends to join them carry out some quick job to earn some money, unloading a container not far from home, Bonapriso, Douala. According to the accounts of some family members, the fifteen young men involved were to receive 12,000 F each as payment.

The job required them to offload contents of two containers belonging to a Chinese company. They were not given the equipment and protective outfit for the work but according to sources, everything went well in the unloading of the first container of aluminum materials. The worst however occurred at the time when the boys were emptying the second container which contained 400 one-tonne of glass palettes. The boys had opened three pallets when the accident happened.

One of them slipped and Martin Moudio Tchapi was the closest. The glass broke on him, leaving him no chance to survive. Badly wounded, he was trapped under the pile for two hours until his body was extracted and taken to the mortuary of the military hospital, commonly referred to as garrison, Bonanjo.

On the side of Chinese society, four officials have been arrested and are in custody at the regional Division of the Judicial Police in the Littoral.
