Ndian - SDO Worried Over Kumba-Mundemba Road

The Senior Divisional Officer for Ndian, Peter Tieh Ndeh, has expressed serious concern about the Kumba-Ekondo Titi-Mundemba 110km stretch of road undergoing the torments of the rainy season. He deplored the state of the road while he chaired the divisional security coordination meeting in one of his nine Sub-Divisional headquarters, Ekondo Titi, last 20 August.

Mr. Tieh Ndeh went further to suggest that the contract between the State and Super Comfort company to maintain the road be annulled judging that the company has not been delivering the goods to his satisfaction in the past three years.

Recently, there was a CFA Four Billion special allocation by the Head of State to maintain the road until funds are ready to tar it. Cameroon Tribune contacted the South West Regional Delegate of Public Works and Supervisory Engineer, Denis Awoh Ndang, to comment on the state of the works on the Kumba-Mundemba road. He said proper maintenance works can only begin on the road by November when the rains should have subsided. But now "We have instructed Supper Comfort to ensure that bad spots are maintained such that the road remains passable even in these heavy rains. And that is why between Kumba and Ekondo Titi the road is not as impassable as it used to be by this season," Mr. Ndang explained. He added that the rains have even gone up as 1.400 milimetres in some parts of Ndian making it impossible to undertake any genuine road works. More so, transport fare has not changed from the usual CFA 6.000 unlike in the past when by now fare always climbed double.

However, the Kumba-Ekondo Titi-Mundemba road is raising concern more because of the upcoming Reunification feast billed for Buea this year and Administrators are worried about transporting people from the Ndian Division (Bakassi area) to Buea for the event.

The South West Delegate of Public Works has explained that intensive repair works can only begin on the road by November although the date of the Reunification event is not yet known.
