Ndu Economic, Cultural Forum sets pace for Bamenda Cultural Festival

North Westerners and councils are beginning to look for alternative sources of generating revenue by exploring the rich culture of the Region. An Economic and Cultural Forum, ECCUFORUM, organised by Ndu Council aimed at marketing the economic and cultural potentials of the municipality which came to a close on Sunday 14 December 2014 has set the pace for a grand cultural festival build for February 2015 organized by the Bamenda City Council.

The recent workshop organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure on how to set Tourism boards in the Councils, observers say, was timely. During ECCUForum in Ndu,the rich cultural diversity of the Mbumland was on display during this period that ran from 11 December to the 14 for visitors, indigenes and children to savour the cultural jamboree to the fullest. This project which is first of its kind in the Division opened up windows for new ideas as exchanges in various topics patterning to Ndu Council were debated in symposiums.

Various Radio talks took place where caller called line in to contribute and topical was on change of mentality. According to the Mayor of Ndu, Bunyuy David, with the right frame of mindset, only very little effort is needed to fit the right building blocks in place to attain the much cherished development for the municipality.

ECCUFORUM was launched with a mini agro-pastoral show to showcase the variety of crops produced in Ndu municipality. This occasioned farmers to liaise among selves and learn from each other. The event which was next to none, spurred a spirit of competition among the farmers with handsome prizes for those that were assessed on excellent lines.

The four-day programme presided over by the Chief executive of the Division, brought together every son and daughter of Ndu municipality to think of a way out of poverty for the people of Ndu. The cultural manifestation was next to none in recent times. For first time in over 20 years the Ndu man felt at home with his culture and tradition which the Fon of Nseh of Bui Division says it should be protected.

He called on the Fons of Mbum land to rekindle the spirit of tradition by performing the rites in the proper manner and not to desecrate when pouring libation with shoes on. According to the Fon of Nseh village which is a neighbor to Ndu, tradition is an asset that should be handle it as the gods pleases and that anybody commissioned to carry out traditional rites, he should do so bare footed.

On the part of the Fon of Ndu HRH Fon Nformi Nfor, he applauded the Mayor of Ndu and said this initiative to bring people from all over to think Ndu SubDivision was very good and that the gods are very please and that his palace is open every good initiative. The Fon thanked the government of Cameroon and the council for the several infrastructural developments taking place within Ndu Sub-Division.
