North West: severe landslide spare human lives

A landslide A landslide

The catastrophe led to no dead but the sweeping away of farmlands and the destruction of two main bridges that have served the people of the three localities slowing down economic activities.

The Mayor of Oku, Jerome Ngum Njio who visited the site revealed that the area had been earmarked as a high risk zone and the local population had earlier been warned not to construct nor cultivate around the area, but unfortunately many still stubbornly carryout agricultural activities around the risk zone.

According to some eyewitnesses, the intensity of the Landslide indicates that lives would have apparently been lost had humans been by the while.

The Mayor further insisted that inhabitants along the risk zone should relocate and that no cultivation nor construction works will be permitted henceforth around the locality.

This to him is the first preemptive measure so to avoid any loss of lives in the future.
