“I am overwhelmed and honoured with the voluntary gesture. Before now, our Information and Communication Technology classes were theoretical. We hope to begin effective practical ICT lessons with the gifts and this is what our pupils ought to know in this digital age, otherwise they would be illiterate in the standards of this present-day technological advancement.”
This was the view of Mbebi Martial, Director of the Government Primary School New-Bell Aviation Ngangue Saturday, October 25, in New-Bell after receiving a consignment of materials from Soleil Partage Cameroun, an association which assists underprivileged children, with the collaboration of the Lions Club Douala Saphir.
The purpose of the donation, which consists of five desktop computers, two printers, 25 kits, chloride solution, toilet rolls, and other didactic materials, worth FCFA 1,536,000, is to encourage initiation of the close to 1000 pupils into the digital world in the phase of rapid globalisation.
While presiding over the handing ceremony, Edou Edou Floride, Douala II Subdivisional Inspector of Basic Education, said the donation is in line with government efforts to eradicate digital illiteracy among young people in the country.
Lions Club Douala Saphir President Diane Nthepe Opele they want to help the underprivileged of the school who are unable to meet up with basic requirements, as well as encourage sanitation in the school milieu.
To Donna Jeanne, Vice President of Soleil Partage, the school was chosen because they found out that some of the pupils had not uniforms, went barefooted to school and lacked necessary requirements.
