South West Election Campaigns Gather Steam

Different strategies have been adopted to woo potential voters.

The timid start of the Municipal and Legislative campaigns is now a thing of the past as all the parties vying for seats in the South West Region have entered the campaign wagon fully. The Regional bigwigs of the CPDM, SDF, UNDP, PAP, UDC, ANDP and CDP are not only playing cat - and mouse games with their rivals, but have adopted different strategies on how to woo potential voters.

Apart from announcements on local radio stations on venues for the campaigns, the effervescence that usually characterizes events of such magnitude is yet to gather momentum. Noisy caravans and campaign stickers of the various candidates are yet to be conspicuous. But the absence of this type of campaign effervescence does not reflect underlying realities. Officials of Ayah Paul's People's Action Party (PAP), say actors are already on the field carrying out door-to-door campaigns.

Yesterday, the Chairman of the CPDM South West Regional Campaign Committee, Peter Mafany Musonge, formally launched the Party's campaign activities at the Youth and Animation Centre in Buea. Speaker after speaker, voiced optimism that CPDM lists will carry the day come September 30, 2013. They enumerated all the lofty development projects of the New Deal, reason why, they said, there would be a one hundred percent massive vote for CPDM candidates.

The Social Democratic Front (SDF) is not sitting on its laurels. Sunday, September 15, 2013 witnessed the formal launch of SDF campaign activities in Kumba for Meme Division. Yesterday, September 16, 2013, the South West Regional Chairman of the SDF, George Ngeke Likiye launched his party's activities in Muea (Buea) with a call for massive votes for the SDF in the forthcoming polls. Other parties vying to grab votes are yet to make their presence felt. But, CT gathered that some meetings to fine-tuned strategies are being held in camera.
