The second edition of the Saint Joseph College, SJC Sasse Excellence Sports Tournament, will take place from December 11 to 14 on SJC Sasse and Bishop Rogan College campuses.
Some 15 schools in Southwest Region will take part in this year’s edition. The tournament, which involves public, denominational and lay private schools, will be competing in football and basketball in both male and female categories.
According to the Principal of SJC, Rev. Father Peter Nouck; “Our objective is to promote excellence and that is why we have to named it the way we did. We are not only promoting excellence in academics but also in morale.” Rev. Nouck explained.
Answering questions regarding malpractices in the competition regarding the huge sum of money that is involved, Rev. Nouck said everything will be put in place to see that schools do not use mercenary players. According to him, schools that will use mercenaries will be sanctioned for life.
In football boys, the winner will back home FCFA 1 million, FCFA 250,000 for the second prize and FCFA 150,000 for the third. A total of FCFA 2,375,000 is involved in the tournament that is sponsored by The Ekole Fountain of Hope Mission USA, in partnership with the SJC Sasse.
This sum is distributed in the various categories: FCFA 325,000 in football girls, FCFA 325,000 in basketball boys and FCFA 325,000 in basketball girls.
