Teachers demonstrate in Bertoua for their deployment fees

Newly assigned teachers by the Ministry of Secondary Education protest outside the East governor's office.

300 people have taken part in the event that made a talking point in Bertoua on Monday, December 15, 2014. The issue: the non-payment of transfer fees of these teachers being integrated, deployed in the Eastern Region East Cameroon.

Gathered at the entrance of the offices of the Governor of the Eastern Region, these teachers from recent postings to institutions by the Ministry of Secondary Education expressed their displeasure. They wanted the governor to meet them to discuss "liquidity problems" first and to ensure that "arrangements are made for this situation to be resolved before the holiday season."

Deployment fees are paid to newly assigned staff in the various decentralized services of MINESEC and calculated based on the distance of the training location to the station. Their calculation is complex in the eyes of some officials, and the decentralization of the management of these costs is perceived by others as a "gumbo" for regional leaders.
