The Turkish Ambassador to Cameroon, His Excellency Omer Faruk Dogan, has pledged Turkey’s support towards the boosting of Limbe’s rich tourism sector.
The ambassador was speaking on Saturday, February 7, during a courtesy visit he made at the Limbe City Council. The ambassador noted that the city of Limbe is blessed with rich natural potentials, which if well developed will make it a leading tourist destination.
After receiving the four-man delegation, the government delegate to the Limbe City Council, Motanga Andrew Monjimba briefed the ambassador and his team on some of Limbe’s strategic sites and events, including the unique annual cultural festival FESTAC, which will be taking place in the weeks ahead.
After close to thirty minutes exchange between the delegation and officials of the Limbe City Council, handshakes, smiles and gifts followed.
Talking to The SUN shortly after the meeting, Ambassador Omer Faruk explained that “Buea and Limbe have special roles to play in the development and emerging process of Cameroon because these regions have natural beauties, natural richness for humanity and a huge tourism potential, so we have shared on how to improve the potential and provide benefits for the need of the population”.
He continued saying, “I have seen that really Limbe, with its huge population is a little Cameroon and Africa in miniature. With the cultural mix it carries, we want to be able to promote this culture and exchange it with that of Turkey, which can be a way to promote tourism.
In Turkey, we have approximately more than 40 million tourists every year and 25 billion US dollar of tourism revenue, thus, we will be very glad to share our experience to improve the potentials this city of Limbe has, to be beneficial to all”.
Talking about Limbe’s Festival of Arts and Culture, FESTAC, which is a huge touristic draw, Ambassador Faruk said, “I have appreciated very much the first edition of FESTAC and I hope that the next organisation will be more effective than the first. I have been informed that it will be in April, and God willing, I will be present to celebrate this second edition”.
It should be noted that this stop at the Limbe City Council, came on the sidelines of the Ambassador’s participation in the 3rd edition of the Academic Exhibition and Entrepreneurship programme at the Catholic University of Buea, where he delivered a paper on the development process of Cameroon and the role of young Cameroonian people.
