On February 9, 2015, Ambassador Michael S. Hoza conducted two education outreach programs in Garoua, where he was joined by local officials, including Governor of the North Region Mr. Jean Ariel Abate, Mayor of Garoua 1 Council Mr. Mohamadou Kaou, and American Corner Coordinator Mr. Harouna Ahmadou.
At the American Corner, the Ambassador donated a set of technical equipment including laptops, iPads, printers, computers, DVD players, wifi kits, a Smart TV, during a ceremony attended by over 100 residents of the city and Cameroonian officials.
The Ambassador also presided over an English Access Microscholarship Program graduation ceremony for over 40 students attended by over 120 guests, including local government officials, teachers and parents, at the Garoua Linguistic Center.
In remarks at both events, Cameroonian officials lauded the partnership between the United States and Cameroon to promote education for Cameroonian youth.
The Ambassador congratulated the youth for their dedication and efforts at establishing goals, and working to pursue them. He also underscored the United States’ commitment to promote education through English learning and American Corners, which “open up windows of opportunity for youth via access to two valuable tools in today’s global economy: access to the internet, and attaining English language proficiency.”
The Cameroonian media interviewed the Ambassador at both programs and offered positive and wide media coverage for his message.
The Ambassador’s participation in the programs highlighted the United States’ global commitment to promote youth outreach and education.
