Welfare staff empowered to manage vulnerable people

A two-day coordination meeting organised by the South West Regional Delegation of Social Affairs for the first semester of 2016 took place recently in the Women's Empowerment Centre, Kumba, in Meme Division on the theme, "Empowerment of social welfare for efficient and effective service delivery towards socially-vulnerable people."

Opening the meeting, the Second Assistant Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, Nelson Yongkuma, reminded the Social Affairs staff that the meeting was a with view to ameliorating the welfare of the target population.

Nelson Yongkuma said the theme was in line with the context, thus the participants should take advantage of the opportunity to reinforce their technical capacity in order to deliver quality services.

He urged them to focus discussions on the principles of good governance, fight against corruption and absenteeism.

"You all know the emerging Cameroon our Head of State expects by 2035 requires quality service delivery, healthy and an active population ready and capable of giving their total support for an inclusive environment for all," he

According to the Regional Delegation for Social Affairs, Wilfred Aba Anjabe, he expected concerted and effective resolutions and recommendations on some key challenges affecting social work in the region.

These include partnership and development in social service delivery, child abandonment and abuse, the procedure for child adoption, ethics and deontology in social service delivery and appropriate psycho-social care for socially- vulnerable persons.
