Over 50 women gathered at the Yaoundé III Council Hall to reflect on peace in Cameroon over the weekend.

During the one-day workshop the President of the Association for the Promotion of Social and Cultural Actions (ASPAC), Noelle Ambatta, said discussions during the workshop focused on preparing a sub-regional forum on peace and how women can be instrumental in a peace process.

The workshop, according to Noelle Ambatta, “is taking place under the initiative of the Women Leaders in Central Africa Forum (WOLICA).”

The initiative started with a campaign last year during which some 100 women from all the ten regions of the country mobilised and signed a peace declaration. The declaration called for regular discussions on how to strategize to build peace in the society. To this effect, they met at the Yaoundé III Council Hall to dwell on salient issues such as reflecting on the means to boost their actions, mobilise and assist those in dire need for a peaceful environment.

In addition, they would also discuss on how to engage women spiritually through prayers for the restoration of peace especially in the Far North Region where Boko Haram attacks are recurrent. The forum also came up with actions and preventive measures geared at sustaining peace.
