Taxi owners and drivers in Yaounde have till July 31, 2016, to conform to required standards or have their taxis stopped from circulating.
This was major decision at a social dialogue exchange between the Centre Regional Delegate for Transport and the Trade Union of Taxi Owners.
This call for conformity is to make taxis more comfortable and attractive especially as Cameroon prepares to host the 2016 Female African Cup of Nations.
According to statistics from the Centre Delegation for Transport, 90 per cent of taxis operate under poor hygienic conditions.
Some have plastics in the place of windows and windscreens, others are not completely painted yellow and some of the drivers are neither neat nor well dressed.
The Transport Regional Delegate emphasised that by 31st July 2016, all taxis must be yellow in colour, carry an immatriculation number and have a radio post.
