Youth celebration ends prematurely at Tokombere in the Mayo Sava

The National Youth celebration ended abruptly for the people of Tokombere in Mayo Sava division when a high voltage electrical wire fell on celebrants, injuring students and teachers.

The celebration reportedly lasted only about 20 minutes at Tokombere in Mayo Sava in the far North. The occasion was prematurely interrupted by a high-tension electrical wire that fell on clebrants at the place of the event.

"When the electrical wire fell, we got frightened and people suddenly began running as students who were in their lines scattered", explained a high school teacher at Tokombere.

The 18 students and 4 teachers who were injured by the electric wire were transported to the hospital by the elements of the Polyvalent Intervention Group of the Gendarmerie Nationale (Gpign).

All those who had come from surrounding villages for the National Day in Tokombere dispersed as a result of the incident. The sub-prefect with his staff who were abandoned at the event had to close the event. They visited the injured victims thereafter to determine the extent of injuries.
