Cameroon's flagbearer in this year's African Confederation Cup Competition, Coton Sports of Garoua, are riding solo on top of pool A with six points in two matches, two clear of runner up, AC Leopards of Congo that beat AS Real Bamako 2-1. The Garoua Boys obtained three vital points on Friday June 6 on an away soil beating local side ASEC Mimosa of Abidjan 3-2 in Abidjan to secure their second successive win at this stage of the competition.
Reports say Cotonsports opened scores 21 minutes into the game through striker Daouda Kamilou. Even though the home side drew level at the 33rd minute and even took the lead before recess, the Garoua team reportedly fought like Spartans to put the two sides at 2-2 through Nacaise Zimbori from the penalty spot at the 59th minute. Apparently, the absence of first choice goalkeeper, Loic Fedjou and defender Cedric Djeugoue, part of the 23-man Indomitable Lions squad in Brazil for the 2014 World Cup did not affect the performance of the Garoua club. The equalizer revived the Cameroon representative's taste for victory and the 90th minute was indeed the time for Daouda Kamilou to net another goal, his second in the game, to carry his side to six points in two outings.
The club obtained their first victory in Garoua a forthnight ago when they triumphed over Mali's AS Real Bamako 2-1. They will next play host to ASEC Mimosa at the weekend of 25, 26 and 27 of next month.
