The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will be chasing their first victory against Bafana Bafana of South Africa, since 1992, when they meet in two 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on March 26, 2016 in Limbe and a return leg on March 29, 2016 in Durban.
The Indomitable Lions are riding high in the qualifiers as leaders of Group M and the clear favourites to claim victory over a Bafana Bafana side, which has taken just one point from their opening two qualifiers.
Out of their six meetings since July 7, 1992 when South Africa returned from international isolation, Cameroon has won just one, recorded two draws and suffered three defeats.
This game took place in Durban and ended with the Bafana Bafana stunning the Lions 1-0 thanks to a goal from Khumalo.
The teams met in four friendlies – in Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg and Rustenburg – with Bafana Bafana claiming two wins, one for Cameroon while one match ended in a draw.
The most infamous meeting between the teams was in January 1996 when Bafana Bafana humiliated the Lions 3-0 in Johannesburg in the group stage of the AFCON.
During the said tournament, South Africa went on to claim the African title.
Their recent meeting was in a friendly on November 19, 2008 in Rustenburg which Bafana Bafana won 3-2.
Out of the six meetings, Cameroon has scored seven goals while South Africa has also found the back of the net 11 times.
Although Bafana Bafana might enjoy a strong record against Cameroon, all the six matches have been held on South African soil. This will be the first time both teams are meeting out of South Africa.
Cameroon will play without Vincent Aboubakar, Carlos Kameni, Joel Matip, Clinton N'jie, Enoh Eyong and Leonard Kweuke, while Eric Choupo-Moting and Benjamin Moukandjo are doubtful.
It is worth noting that Cameroon's attack is most depleted with Aboubakar suspended, Moukandjo highly doubtful and Choupo-Moting not 100 percent fit.
The Belgian tactician is left with Jacques Zoua as the most experienced striker, who has just 10 caps and is yet to score for the Indomitable Lions.
However, there are hardened strikers at his disposal like Christian Bekamenga (only played for Cameroon Olympic squad back in 2008), Karl Toko Ekambi (just three international appearances as a substitute in 2015) and 19-year-old newcomer Anatole Abang, who plays for New York Red Bulls in USA.
Cameroon goes into this game with many odds against them. They have a depleted squad that is plagued by injuries and suspensions, a new head coach, Hugo Broos, who has not led Cameroon in any match yet and have a weak record against South Africa.
