Cameroon head coach Hugo Broos is confident that Alexandre Song will make his return to the Lions’ den when they travel to Mauritania in June, in their fifth Group M outing of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The West Ham United midfielder, who made his last international appearance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, had announced his Cameroon retirement in January 2015.
Expected to reverse his decision ahead of their double header with South Africa, following a meeting with the country’s new coach, Song ultimately turned down his call-up.
However, his return is only a matter of time according to the Belgian tactician.
“I spoke with Song, and for him it was a bit too early. But he promised me that for the next game he will be again available,” Broos confirmed.
“So I hope he keeps his promises and I can see him in two months for the game against Mauritania, because every coach likes to have good players.”
The Indomitable Lions enjoy a one-point lead over Mauritania in Group M of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers with two games to go.
