KCC counting chances in Cameroon

Ugandan champions KCC carry a 1-0 advantage to Cameroon looking to complete the job started two weeks ago in Kampala when they face hosts, Cosmos de Bafia on Sunday.

Coach Abdallah Mubiru’s men need a draw, or even a 2-1 defeat, to progress to the first round thanks to striker Herman Wasswa’s lone strike in the first leg in Kampala.

Many wonder, how the little front man was the star of attraction as the team landed in Cameroon on Wednesday evening. “Herman is an instant celebrity here,” KCC official Peter Kibazo, who arrived in Cameroon as part of the advance team on Monday, told the club website.

“From journalists to fans, they are lining for autographs and photo shoot with him. But on Sunday, we will need more than photo opportunities and autographs, but goals from Wasswa and company” fans asserted. The team are lodging at Ibis Hotel in Doula.

Coach Mubiru knows an early goal will settle the nerves yet defending should also be high on their priorities. He is hopeful they will complete the job.

“The boys are in a good mood and ready for match day,” he said, adding that, “Hopefully, we get the desired result to progress to the next round.” The winners of this tie will have to face Tunisia’s Esperance in the first round.

Mubiru will be without utility player Joseph Ochaya, who is still yet to secure a Caf license to feature for the club on the continent.

The ex-Asante Kotoko player has, however, featured in two league games since being cleared by Fifa to return to his childhood club.

New signings like Francis Olaki and Savio Kabugo are also still out with injuries. Striker Michael Birungi, who missed the first leg returns after injury, is the good news as he returns for the yellow brigade.
