Williams has told Goal that Shakes should pick in-form striker Nxumalo in his starting line-up for this weekend's away clash against Cameroon in Limbe.
Former Bafana Bafana striker Mark Williams has said that Shakes Mashaba should be brave and throw his fittest striker, Prince Nxumalo into the deep end when they play Cameroon in their crucial 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match on Saturday.
Nxumalo is currently second in the PSL goalscoring charts with 11 goals, two behind Collins Mbesuma who is on 13.
“I saw the potential when I was still training the SuperSport United strikers before he went to Ajax and I knew from then that the boy will go far,” Williams told Goal.
“For me, I think Shakes needs to be brave and throw Prince into the deep end against Cameroon.
“He is the fittest striker in the Bafana squad who has been playing week in and week out.
“You know our coaches; they will tell you that they took the boy so that he gets the experience of travelling.
“For me, he and Ndumiso Mabena are the only fit strikers in the team.
Williams recalled on his experience of making his debut for Bafana and mentions that the only way players get experience is by playing.
“I remember that I also made my debut for the national team against Cameroon and I did not disappoint.
“For me, the only way for a player to get international experience is by playing him and not just taking him to travel with the team.
“This boy has proven that he is a goalscorer and he needs to be given a chance.”
Williams concluded by saying that Nxumalo should not make a mistake of moving to a bigger club too early.
“He should not make that mistake and must remain with Ajax for another season so that he continues to play regularly and grow as a player,” said Williams.
“He should just continue enjoying himself and when he feels he is ready for a bigger challenge then a return to SuperSport will be the best options for him,” Williams concluded
