The Desert Warriors of Algeria players , have taken to their social media handles to lament last Friday’s Africa qualifying draw for the FIFA 2018 World Cup in Russia that pitted them in Group B with heavyweights, Nigeria, Cameroon and Zambia.
This is even as former Super Eagles player,Tijani Babangida is hinging Nigeria’s chances of advancing from the from the group dubbed ‘group of Death’ on divine intervention.
Watford of England player, Adlene Guedioura , on his Instagram page bemoaned the fate that has befallen him and his fellow Watford players; Odion Ighalo and Allan Nyom of Cameroon, describing it as a ‘difficult group’.
The midfielder will trade tackles with fellow Watford teammates, Ighalo and Nyom who play for Nigeria and Cameroon respectively when the series kick-off later this year in October.
“What a difficult Group with my fellows @ ighalojude [Odion Ighalo] and @allannyom [Allan Nyom] @bassongofficiel6 [Sebastian Bassong] but inshaAllah kheir,” Guedioura wrote.
Lyon midfielder Ghezzal Rachid reacting to the pairings , rallied his teammates on Twitter to work hard to seal qualification to Russia in 2018. “Now we have to work hard to [win] this difficult group,” he said.
Meanwhile, ex-international, Tijani Babangida says it is only a miracle that would see the Eagles land in Russia.
The former Ajax Amsterdam star told AfricanFootball.com that while other teams are busy preparing hard for the 2018 World Cup qualifying series which begins in October, Nigeria is yet to have a permanent coach.
“The worse happened already after we were not seeded,” he said.
“And now with Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia in our group, only a miracle could take us out of this group, let’s be realistic even though we also know that anything is possible in football. “Other nations are already 100 percent ready for the qualifiers, while we are still not certain who our coach will be.”
Babangida featured at the 1998 World Cup and was recently a special assistant to former Nigeria coach, Sunday Oliseh.
