Thousands March in Support for Lions

The march was organized by the Centre League of the Sports for All federation on Sunday.

After the massive turn-out for the traditional send-off ceremony for the Lions during the Cameroon-Moldavia encounter on Saturday, over five thousands Cameroonians decided to march a distance of 28 kilometres from the Lion's base at the Mont Febe hotel in Yaounde, to their point of departure at the Nsimalen International airport to say goodbye to the Lions. The march was organized by the Centre regional League of the Sports for All federation with the support of a mobile telephone company and other well wishers.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of the Centre regional League of Sports for All, Ndongo Benogo Essengue Seraphine, said the march was organized to demonstrate the support and love Cameroonians had for the Indomitable Lions and to let them know Cameroonians are behind them as they go for the world cup in Brazil. It a way of blessing the Lions, she said and to urge them to give in their best during the competition. The marchers offered a symbolic flag to the Lions as a mark of patriotism and affection.

"I decided to march because I love Cameroon and the Indomitable Lions," said Fumtum Leopold. "I want to tell them we need victory in Brazil," he added. Among the participants was a group of Central Africans citizens residing in Cameroon who say the Lions will not only be representing Cameroon in Brazil but the whole central African region.

This is the second big event to be organised by the league within a space of one month. On May 20th, 2014, the league organised a march for national unity along the main alleys of the capital city, Yaounde. Over 10.000 people took part in that march.
