For a team that only played their first ever international game last month, any opponent from Friday’s draw of the 2015 African Nations Beach Soccer qualifiers was going to be difficult.
And so Cameroon it will be; twice world cup finalists, winners of the 2006 continental title and runners up in 2008. “Of course it will be a difficult game because of our inexperience,” predicted Baker Lukooya one of the Sand Cranes scorers in the match against Zanzibar.
The match ended in a 5-4 win for the Ugandan team coached by Harunah Kebba.
“It was big learning experience and I think the Cameroon game will be the same,” added the player who also turns out for MUBS in the domestic league.
Different sand
“The sand for example is a lot different from the one we use here but we obviously try and get a result to help us progress,” he explained.
The Central Africans will host the first leg of the first round to be played on the weekend starting February 13 while the second leg will be played a week later.
The winner of the tie will consequently play Ghana with the victor joining hosts Seychelles and nine other nations for the final tournament in April.
