The first edition of the Vice Chancellor’s Tennis Open has ended well with a student of the University of Maroua, Wouombong Cedric and twenty-two-year-old Mamo Flore from the Littoral Region, emerging winners in the Men and Ladies Seniors respectively.
While the runners up are twenty-three-year-old Weti Boris and thirteen year old Manuela Eloundou respectively.
The Vice Chancellor’s Tennis Open that was launched on Friday December 5, 2014 at the University Of Buea came to an end on Sunday December 7, 2O14, at the Buea Mountain Club Tennis Court. The three-day event brought together 50 athletes from all over Cameroon is the first edition.
The president of South West Cameroon Tennis Federation (FECCATENNIS) who doubles as the organiser, Valentine Eyum Sama, appreciated the stakeholders involved in the realisation of the event especially the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Buea, Dr. Pauline Nalova Lyonga.
He explained that this is the first Tennis Open organised in Cameroon and appealed for sponsors and stakeholders to seize the opportunity to invest in the game so that many talents can be identified who will fly the flag of Cameroon in international competitions. He announced that the VC’s Open will be an annual event was witnessed.
Also present in the event was one time Cameroon Female Tennis Champion cum pioneer Vice-Chancellor of UB, Prof. Mrs. Dorothy Limunga Njeuma, the Director of Development, Physical, Plant and Infrastructure in the University of Buea, Prof. Mbua Ngale Efange, the and the South West Regional Delegate of Sports and Physical Education, Abel Ekema.
Prof. Mbua Ngale Efange expressed satisfaction with the organisation of the tournament and remarked that though UB athlete failed to emerge champions, it if has served as a good training for them ahead of the All University Games in April 2015.
