Samuel Eto’o was crowned this 27th December 2016 during the biggest football festival in the United Arab Emirates with FIFA President, Gianni Infantino as special guest.
He remains the undisputed best scorer of all times at the AFCON with sixteen goals shattering the fourteen goal long standing record of Luarent Pokou of Cote D’Ivoire.
On the world stage, Eto’o has played in the top three football league that is; England, Spain and Italy.
In 2006, he was voted third best player in the world behind Lionel Messi and Frank Lampard.
Eto’o has won three Champion Leagues with two different clubs; FC Barcelona and Inter Milan.
At home, Eto’o remains best scorer of all times with a total of 56 goals in 118 appearance.
At 35, he is the only African player to have been honoured with this prestigious tittle at the Globe Soccer Awards
He is the first of three straight African Player of the year awards, and became the club's all-time leading domestic league scorer.
Eto'o earned the Pichichi Trophy as La Liga's leading scorer in 2006 and topped all competitors in goals at the 2006 and 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
He was a major force behind Barcelona's treble-winning campaign of 2008-09.
Eto'o claimed a record fourth African Player of the Year Award in 2010, and guided his club to another Italian Cup championship at the end of the season.
As another major record during the award ceremony, the Real Madrid and Portugal superstar Christiano Ronaldo was named best player at the 2016 Globe Soccer Awards on Tuesday in Dubai. It’s the fourth time Ronaldo has claimed the award in its seven-year history.
Ronaldo’s Globe Soccer Award comes in the wake of his Ballon d’Or, which he won on December 16.
He also is widely expected to win FIFA’s Best Player Award next month. Ronaldo helped Real Madrid win the 2015-16 UEFA Champions League title, the UEFA Super Cup and the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup. He also led Portugal to victory at Euro 2016.
Real Madrid and its president, Florentino Perez, took home best club and best president honors, respectively.
