Inhabitants of the seaside resort town of Limbe are now living in fear and uncertainty after the Limbe City Council began its project of demolishing houses.

The demolition exercise is a result of an earlier resolution of the council that was re-echoed on recently as part of preparations to host the 2016 Female African Cup of Nations.

Several houses in the city have already been marked by the technical services of the council while some structures will soon begin going down.

This move has left many denizens of the city in fear as they do not know what awaits them. The action has quickly reminded the population of a similar action that was taken in the build up to the 50th anniversary of reunification.

Meantime, the Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council, Andrew Motanga Monjimba has made it clear that there will be no compensation for people whose houses will be demolished. According to him, those who own houses that have been earmarked for demolition were informed a long time ago, and as such they are not entitled to any compensation.

During the 31 December session, the SDO for Fako Zang III said giving Limbe a physical facelift as well as stepping up security is a collective effort of all Cameroonians living in the city and its environs. It was also noted that this year’s Limbe Festival of Arts and Culture is going to record marked improvements due to the coming of the African Nations Cup to the city.

Thus the Limbe City Council will run on a budget of about 6 billion frs in 2016,an amount that is expected the city to prepare adequately for the international visitors that will be visiting it this year.

Sub divisional councils in Limbe have also voted budgets that will enable them carry out activities that are complementary, but not in competition with those of the City Council.
