Alex Song is a great asset to West Ham -Carl Jenkinson

West Ham defender Carl Jenkinson has revealed that he is thrilled that the club have signed former team-mate Alex Song and believes the Cameroonian international will be a great asset to the club.

Jenkinson joined the Hammers on loan from Arsenal whilst Song joined in a season long loan from Barcelona but before playing for the Catalan side Song was a team-mate of Jenkinson’s at the Emirates.

Jenkinson said that he believes that Song will be a good addition for the club and also said that whilst the Cameroonian’s dress sense is certainly different it is good that he has his own style.

Speaking to the Express, Jenkinson said: “Alex Song made his debut at Hull too and I know him really well from his time at Arsenal. He’s a top player and a great asset for this club.

“He knows what he can do, and people will gradually see that too. He demands time on the ball and he gets it – he’s that sort of player and he’s that good. “I think he’ll be fantastic this season and it’s great to see him playing now because he’s in a similar situation to me. He needed to get fit and he’s fit now now, so hopefully he has a great season.

“I know there have been a few pictures of what he’s been wearing on Twitter and he has a unique style! He was the same at Arsenal and he doesn’t care too much about what other people think.

That’s good, it’s nice that he’s got his own individuality and he wears what he wants to wear so fair play to him.”

Song established a reputation as a formidable central midfielder during his time at Arsenal, but his career has stagnated after his move to Barcelona and he has said that he hopes to get his career back on tract with West Ham.

It will be interesting to see if the pair starts against Liverpool on Saturday.
