BFT to field ten boxers in Olympic qualifiers in Cameroon

Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) is expected to enter ten national team boxers in the Rio 2016 Olympics’ qualifying event penned for March 9 to 20 in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

BFT vice-president Lukelo Wililo said the event will be the last for the Tanzanian boxers, noting that the ones that will excel in the event will qualify for the Olympics.

Wililo disclosed that the team is presently training at the National Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam under coach Said Omar.

He said the national amateur boxing championship will be held at the Tanganyika Packers ground in the city, in which ten boxers will be selected for the national team.

He said the boxers that will put impressive performance will represent the country n the Cameroon event.

Meanwhile, BFT has called on regions to prepare for the national amateur boxing championship, which has been scheduled for February.

Wililos said BFT is keen on seeing participating boxers put solid showing in the championship.

He said regional amateur boxing governing bodies’ officials should, therefore, embark on their respective teams’ preparations for the championship
