Banyana ready for Cameroon - Van Wyk

Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk says the team is excited for their 2014 African Women’s Championship opener against Cameroon in Windhoek on Sunday.

Banyana, who are based at Safari Lodge in the Namibian capital, had their first training session yesterday ahead of their Group B tie at the Independence Stadium. Ghana and Algeria are also in their pool.

Van Wyk said: “The team has settled well in Windhoek and we are looking forward to our opening game against Cameroon on Sunday, the ladies are excited.

All the preparations we have been doing for the past nine weeks should result in good outcomes, starting with the match on Sunday.”

Banyana will take on Ghana on 15 October before tackling Algeria three days later, with all the games taking place at the same venue.

Vera Pauw's charges enjoyed a seven-match unbeaten streak in their preparation for the competition, which will serve as a qualifier for the Women's World Cup.
