It's official, Breel Embolo received his Swiss passport. The question is whether the prodigy of FC Basel (17) will choose in the future to defend the colors of Switzerland or Cameroon.
Last Tuesday, while FC Basel wrote a new page of Swiss football by qualifying for the 8th finals of the Champions League with Liverpool (1-1), Embolo learned from Basel Swiss authorities that he had been granted Swiss natonality.
Embolo, born February 14, 1997 in Yaounde and arrived in Switzerland at the age of six, played in FC Basel since 2010 and recently extended his contract with the club until 2017. The starlet is courted by many large clubs and also by the Cameroon coach Volker Finke. So far he has only played friendly matches with the Swiss youth teams.
Vladimir Petkovic has in turn spoken with Embolo a few days ago. The national coach will receive a first opportunity to attempt to link the FC Basel player’s fate at the Swiss team next spring, with a view of the match against Estonia planned for March 27 as part of the playoffs for Euro 2016.
