It was a weekend of mixed results for the three Cameroonian clubs engaged in CAF continental club competition with two defeats and a win recorded by Cosmos of Bafia, Panthere of Nde and Unisport of Bafang.
The lone victory was by Unisport of Bafang in the African Confederations Cup, playing in Douala last Sunday following a 1-0 win over Senegalese outfit, Ngor FC. Ludovic Ndzie scored the lone goal of the game at the 44th minute.
The result came to bring respite to many football fans back home after Panthere of Nde had lost to Rayon Sport of Rwanda by a similar score on Saturday in the same competition.
Playing away in Kampala, Uganda, Cosmos of Bafia received its baptism of fire in the hands of Ugandan City Council, in the Champions league, losing by a single goal to zero.
Cosmos had played the last half hour of the game with a man down after Patrick Nai was expulsed at the 6Oth minute.
Despite putting up a brave show, the team conceded at the 88th minute when Herman Wasswa scored with a superb volley. Cosmos was also unfortunate not to have scored due to the bravery of the Ugandan goalie.
Thomas Libiih, coach of Cosmos blamed his side’s defeat to naivety and lack of experience and hopes to make amends in the return leg back home in Yaounde.
Meanwhile, Coton sport of Garoua champions of Cameroon received a bye from the preliminary round and will only join the completion in the 16th finals of the Champions league.
