CHAN reunion for Angola and Cameroon

Indomitable Lions Indomitable Lions

Angola and Cameroon will battle in Butare on Sunday, in their Group B opener of the African Nations Championship Rwanda 2016.

It will be the two sides’ second appearance at the continental competition, the Palancas Negras having edged the Indomitable Lions on penalties in the quarterfinals of the 2011 edition in Sudan to secure a runners-up finish behind winners Tunisia.

However, the Cameroonians are set to take revenge on their Southern African counterparts looking at current form.

Held to a 1-1 draw by tournaments hosts Rwanda in a warm-up friendly after enjoying a 1-0 away win over Niger, the Lions remain undefeated since Martin Ndtoungou Mpilé’s appointment as Cameroon’s locally-based national team head coach last October.

Meanwhile, Angola recorded a winless run during their preparation in South Africa, drawing with Nigeria before suffering back to back losses to Zambia and Guinea.

“The players are shooting very little at goal, hence the urgent need to find ways to overcome this weakness,” Angola caretaker coach José Kilamba lamented following their 1-2 defeat to Chipolopolo.

The match will kick off at Huye Stadium at 18h00 CAT on Sunday, with DR Congo facing Ethiopia in the other Group B opener at 15h00 CAT.
