Cameroon call up 20 players to camp in Yaounde

Cameroon will host the AfroBasket Women for the first time in its history and look to claim a maiden continental title later this year, 24 September-3 October.

In preparation for this historical moment, Cameroon's Basketball Federation has called up 20 players to take part in a training camp that will start on June 15 in the country's capital city of Yaounde.

The list includes six players who participated in AfroBasket Women 2013 in Amina Njounkou, Ramses Lonlack - who was named to the All-Tournament Team - Priscilla Mbiandja, Siloise Gano Jiogap, Mary Kevine Tsoungui, Nicole Senken Jamen.

This group fell short of reaching the Final two years ago after falling 61-57 in their Semi-Final against host nation Mozambique.

However, they are determined to take revenge this summer. Njounkou and her teammates will tip off their campaign against Mozambique before going up against the other teams in Group B, including South Africa, Gabon, Uganda and Mali.

In a recent interview with FIBA.com, Lonlack showed great confidence about Cameroon's chances at this competition.

"With some fresh legs being added to the roster we feel we play the game the way we want to and how we want to."

Head coach Alain Zedong has called upon new players evolving in the domestic league and also in Europe and United States to round out the 20-player pool. He will be assisted in his mission by Charles Essimbi, Stephano Bizzozi Matteo, and Claudio Jemoli Trisoglio.
