Cameroon can't beat Croatia - Eric Djemba-Djemba

The Cameroonian international on a program on private tv station, Equinoxe TV said he did not see Cameroon beating Croatia in their next game.

Djemba also goes further to say that he was disappointed with the Lions’ results since Mexico was considered a weakest team in the group. He pointed out the fact that those donning the lions shirt today are not as competitive as in the days when the likes of Marc-Vivien Foe, Ringobert Song played.

“To play for the national team, you have to prove it. You have to be hard to play in this team. I was proud to be on the bench Cameroon. When Marc-Vivien Foe fire played, I was proud to be on the bench.” Djemba recounted.

Speaking on Finke’s tactics, the former lion question why the coach does not go in for youthfulness.

“Our team has talent. Edgar Salli has talent, Moukandjo has talent, and Vincent Abubakar has talent. Why Vincent Abubakar does not play. Samuel Eto'o no longer has the freshness that everyone knows. But with our experience, we can provide more. “

He also questions why Finke is using a single striker in front when Aboubakar can partner well with Eto’o in front. “Why play Eto’o alone when he can partner with Vincent Aboubakar. He will use his experience and Aboubakar will do what it will do. It's insane that we have a player like him who is a top scorer and is on the bench.”

Djemba bemoans the lack of stability in the squad as the keep on calling different players and also his omission in the squad during the 2010 World Cup. “... today we change, tomorrow we change, there is no stability, and this is not normal. Côte d'Ivoire has eight or nine players who were there in 2002; you see that Spain still has five players who were there in 2010.

Why change? Why do you always do this or that? We'll go home with zero points? When I was in Denmark in 2010, I was the best foreign player, but I have not been selected. The team of Denmark had six players playing in the same league as me, and they won Cameroon 2-1, I was second in the championship, and I was not selected.”

He ended by saying that the way the armband was taken from Rigobert Song was humiliating after all the years he has put into the Lions’ den. He also complained that Makoun or Kameni should have been named assistant captains under Eto’o and not Nicolas Nkoulou.

It should be noted that problems in the lions’ den started when French Coach, Paul Le Guen, made Eto’o the lions’ captain when Song was still in active service with the lions.

Djemba-Djemba was a member of the Cameroon team that won the 2002 African Nations Cup and finished as runners-up to France at the 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup. He also appeared at the 2002 World Cup. However, Djemba-Djemba wasn't included for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, due to managerial differences.

Despite his attempt make it in the squad in the 2014 World Cup for Cameroon, Djemba-Djemba wasn't included in the 28-man provisional World Cup squad and thus missing out on the World Cup under the management of Volker Finke. He has made 24 appearances for the lions scoring two goals.
