Cameroon in the limelight of the International Day of Sports

Cameroon has joined the world over in celebrating the International Day of Sports for development and peace.

The day observed on 6th April each year, seeks to raise awareness of sports and physical education in social development and peace.

The day that was celebrated in Cameroon this Monday 6th April 2015 was highlighted with commemorative activities in the country.

Some Yaounde city dwellers who gathered at the University of Yaounde sports complex to take part in different sport discipline said sports apart from the pleasure helps in keeping the body fit.

Another spoter said sports helps relieves long accumulated diseases in our bodies like diabetes, obesity and stress.

Besides the fact that the absence of sports according to medics might lead to high cholesterol, high blood, heart disease, strokes and other serious health challenges.

Sports like running swimming, running, jumping medics add help reduces many health mental problems.

According to the Wilfred Lemki, Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary General on Sports for development and peace “Sport has the capacity to empower individuals and bring ones moral values to the forefront”.

He also said sports help people to remain peaceful and non-violent through the reduction of anger in course of frequent sporting activities.

On the peaceful part of it, sports is the world’s most reunifying factor, in Africa sports has brought many countries together and has helped in the realisation of magnificent infrastructure.
