Cameroon prepares for the 15th World Athletics Championship

Cameroon will be engaged in a war on two fronts at the upcoming world athletics championship to take place in China.

The country will be gunning not only for medals but also for positions within the executive committee of the International Association of Athletics Federations, IAAF. On the sporting side, the battle for medals will be conducted by two laureates of the last African games in Maputo; Mbumi Sandrine and Aureole Ndongmo who will be engaged in the triple jump, discus and javelin throw respectively.

On the administrative side, the battle will be conducted by the president of the African athletics confederation, Cameroonian-born Colonel Kalkaba Malboum, the president and vice of the Cameroon athletics federation, Emmanuel Motombi Mbome and Etong Leonie.

Colonel Kalkaba will by vying for the covetous positions of one of the four vice presidents of IAAF, Motomby Mbome will be fighting for a position in the cross country committee. Etong Leonie, who happens to be a member of the African masters reserved for veterans, will be seeking a higher representation at the world instance.

The 15th World Championships in Athletics are scheduled to be held from August 22nd to 30th in Beijing, China. The event will be the largest sporting event to take place at the Beijing National Stadium referred to as the "Bird's Nest" since the 2008 Summer Olympics. Some 3,800 athletes and coaches from more than 200 federations will attend the event.

The number of teams and athletes to compete in the Championships hits a new record. IAAF World Championships is the largest athletic sports event in the world and also the third largest international sports event after Olympics Games and FIFA World Cup.
