Cameroon wins three medals at Dubai Athletics

After the federation of visually impaired, it was the turn of the physically disabled athletes to fetch medals for Cameroon in international competitions.

Athletes from the federations of physically disabled people who recently took part in 7th athletics crusade in Dubai-United Arab Emirates bagged home three medals; one in gold and two in silver.

The gold medals was fetched for Cameroon by Gobe Christian I in discus throw event while Timowa George won bronze in the 200m event. Gobe won a second medal, this time in bronze in shot put.

The president of the federation of the physically disabled persons, Ngoyo Ngon Herve Guy, granted a press conference at the conference hall of the ministry of Sports and Physical Education, to present the award to the public.

He said Cameroon’s performance was laudable especially as it was the first-time disabled athletes were taking part in an international competition. Ngoyo Ngo Herve said the essence was to enable the athletes to be classified so as to be able to participate in international competitions and in the end, 15 out of the 18 athletes who took part in the competition were classified. Six (6) obtained the minimum record for participating in the upcoming world championship in Doha-Qatar.

He expressed gratitude to the sports minister for not only sponsoring the trip to Dubai but also providing 3 aerodynamic wheelchairs to the federation. He also acknowledged receipt of a consignment of tennis equipment from Yoan Cruff.

He disclosed that there were 23 sports disciplines within the federation of physically handicapped people and that they will work progressively to implement all the disciplines in Cameroon.
