Chantal Biya Cycling Tour preparations underway

Cameroon Cycling Federation president Cameroon Cycling Federation president

Preparations are underway towards the 2015 edition of the Grand Prix international Chantal Biya. The first preparatory meeting to this effect took place on Friday August 14th at the seat of the cycling federation in Yaounde.

Speaking on the occasion, the president of the Cameroon Cycling Federation, Honoré Yossi called on members of the organising committee to come up with ideas towards a successful holding of the event; implement them meticulously so as to make the 2015 edition of the race a great success.

It would be recalled the 2015 edition of the Chantal Biya International Cycling race has been billed for October 14th to 18th with the prologue to take place for the first time in Douala in order to lure the business community to sponsor the event.

So far, the federation has invited 10 cycling teams to the competition, four European and four African countries in addition to the two from Cameroon. There will be two teams from France in the European delegation together with a team from Slovakia and another from Switzerland. The African teams are namely, morocco, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.

Two more teams will be invited from Africa to complete the number of participants to 12 teams. The Cameroonian cyclists retained for the Chantal Biya cycling race will have to take part in the upcoming Tour of Côte d’Ivoire which will take place before the Grand Prix Chantal Biya.

It would be recalled that because of budgetary constraints; cycling was scraped from among the disciplines to take part in the All African Games next month in Brazzaville-Congo. So therefore the Tour of Côte d’Ivoire will serve as preparation for the Cameroonian cyclists for the Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, the International Cycling Union wrote to the Cameroon Cycling Federation on August 6th commending Cameroon for the organisation of the 2014 edition of the race. However, the ICU called on Fecacyclisme to improve certain aspects of the organisation such as the circulation of vehicles during the race and the good functioning of the tour radio.

According to the ministerial decision setting up the organisation committee, there are fifteen sub committees, coordinated by the president of the federation and put under the direct supervision of the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Adoum Garoua.
