Congo pick Cameroon for pre AFCON camp

The Democratic Republic of Congo will be carrying out preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, the country’s football federation said on Thursday.

The Leopards will open camp on January 3 through 15 at the Sports Academic Centre of Mbankomo near Yaoundé, Cameroonian capital.

Local players will hold an initial gathering on December 29 in Kinshasa, the DR Congo’s capital, before moving to nearby Cameroon, the body said.

DR Congo are matched up in Group B against Cape Verde, Tunisia and Zambia, and will face the Chipolopolo on January 29 in their opener at the Nuevo Estadio de Ebebiyín in Ebebiyín.

The Leopards have won the tournament twice in 1968 and 1974.
