FECATAE approves new electoral code

This was during an extraordinary general assembly meeting on Saturday in Yaounde.

The Cameroon Taekwondo Federation on Saturday, April 9 in Yaounde adopted an electoral code to govern elections within the federation both at the National and Regional levels. Justifying the adoption of the electoral code, the president of the Cameroon Taekwondo Federation, Edouard Tchoquessi said it was to avoid electoral disputes as was witnessed during the last elections which tarnished the image of the federation.

Owing to that sad experience, a group led by the president of the Taekwondo Academy, Evele Malik, to draft an electoral code for the federation. The draft was submitted to the executive committee which gave its approval before the final adoption on Saturday by the general assembly.

The electoral code which comprises 31 articles, specifies the new composition of the elective general assembly, number of executive positions, the periodicity of elections, conditions of eligibility, the composition and function of the electoral committee, system of voting as well as the declaration of results. The code was adopted article by article which member seeking clarifications and making necessary modifications.

The president of the federation refuted accusations that he was tailoring the electoral code to suit his interest saying there were no articles to trap anyone.

He said work was done in the open with journalists in the hall and that he didn’t have the intention to stay forever at the helm of the taekwondo federation.
