Cameroon Journal, Yaounde – The term of office of the presidents of the Cameroon Football Federation ( FECAFOOT) will henceforth be limited to one, lasting for 12 years.
A visiting delegation of the World Football governing body, FIFA informed FECAFOOT executive bureau members of the FIFA decision on Friday, December 18. The delegation led by the head of FIFA Development Programme in Africa, Zelkifli Ngoufonya had a working session with FECAFOOT officials led by its President Tombi a Rocko.
In response to the decision, Tombi a Rocko said it was a good thing to limit the terms of office of FECAFOOT presidents. He said it would enable the other aspirants to bring in new ideas. He added that it was a great change.
Zelkifli Ngoufonya used the working session to inform FECAFOOT officials of other key innovations. Each member of the FIFA to whom the world football governing body allocated 250 million US Dollars to invest in the development of football should submit annual financial and internal financial audit reports to the institution.
“Annual financial reports of federations should be submitted to FIFA. If this is not done, no development project will be granted to them,” Zelkifli Ngoufonya said.
FIFA would also want all financial transactions with football federations to be centralized in one account. “This is to avoid money FIFA sends being siphoned to unknown accounts. No negative balance is accepted in the FIFA account,” Zelkifli said.
The head of FIFA Development Programme in Africa said FECAFOOT should exclude politics from the management of football. He lauded Cameroon football federation for taking into account the gender aspect in the composition of its bureau.
The future of Cameroon’s football, FIFA officials recommended, depends on the construction of sports infrastructure, funding, management of activities related to football and the promotion of sports through diverse programmes.
