After months of silence, the Cameroon professional female championship has kicked off with some interesting matches played.

The season will end on September 3, 2016, with a slight break between the June 4 and 21. The kick-off is seen as a morale booster to female football, given that more is expected of Cameroon during the 2016 AFCON scheduled to begin in November.

Launching the season at the FECAFOOT Technical Centre in Odza, Green City FC beat visiting Panthere Security of Garoua by 1-0 with the lone goal coming at the 65th minute through Catherine Bengono.

“The launching of the season with great fanfare is proof that 2016 is the year of women's football. In September, the Junior Lionesses will be in Jordan for the U17 World Cup while in November, the Senior Lionesses will host the 2016 AFCON.

The federation has done everything for women's football to attain the desired level,” said Senator Alhaji Alioum, 1st Vice President of FECAFOOT.
The 12 teams that will take part in the championship were handed their first checks of the FCFA 72 million promised.

Providing the information during a press conference at the FECAFOOT headquarters in Yaounde recently, the Secretary General of the Federation said the geographical position of the teams will be taken into account when the distribution begins.

Two clubs in the Far North (As Djamboutou and ASFF Diamare) will have FCFA 8 million each, while the sum of FCFA7 million will go to teams from the North Region, (Panther Security Garoua and North Wind FC).

Gentle Ladies of the Northwest will receive FCFA 6 million; FCFA5.5 million will be given to teams around Yaounde (Social FC of Mbam, Sa'a Bolt FC and Femina Stars of Ebolowa). Clubs in Yaounde (Louves Minproff, FAP Amazon, Canon Girls and AS Green City) will have FCFA 5 million each.
