During the burial ceremony of the late Cameroon International footballer Valery Mezague in his home town of Menoua, Lucien Mettomo speaking on behalf of the National Union of Cameroon Footballers, questioned why there was no delegation from both the Cameroon Football Federation and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education.
The remains of the late Mezague arrived in Cameroon and only family members were at the Douala International airport to receive it.
There was no Cameroon flag placed on the coffin as a sign of respect to a fallen hero, no medal, no military salute, not even the presence of a district head.
“For a young man who defended the colours of Cameroon as seen here on this photo during the FIFA Confederation Cup in France is indeed disgraceful” noted Concord Sports Editor.
At Baleveng, the newly elected president of the County League, Etienne Tamo told mourners that he was bearer of a condolence message from the Commission charged with the normalization of the Cameroon Football Federation to the bereaved family.
Etienne Tamo in a typical Francophone manner also said, he was given a cheque "to hand it over to the late Mezague’s mother" to enable her travel to Yaoundé and meet FECAFOOT officials.
